Las Vegas Realtor ® Image Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam

This striking view is from the floor of Black Canyon on the Colorado River, about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. The Bureau of Reclamation started conducting tours through the Hoover Dam and it's Power Plant in 1937. Today, close to 1,000,000 visitors a year take the tour and millions more drive across the dam.  This is truly a breath-taking experience.

Las Vegas Realtor ® Image Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Not just a scenic drive but a wonderful place to visit and enjoy your day.  The area has many things to see and do.  The visitors center has great information about the surrounding area including the wildlife.  It is not unusual to to see burros (wild donkeys) along the roadside.  Also in the immediate area enjoy a visit to the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park and Bonnie Springs, horseback rides and additional hiking trails. The Red Rock Canyon area is considered one of the top rock-climbing and rappelling sites in the nation.

Las Vegas Realtor ® Image Mt Charleston Lodge

Mount Charleston Lodge

Located at the very top of Kyle Canyon road approximately 60 miles northwest of Las Vegas is this beautiful rustic Mount Charleston Lodge.  If you are partial to higher elevations and lots of green this is a must visit.  Better yet, want to get away from the bright lights and enjoy some cool air and wooded scenery then book yourself a stay at the Mt. Charleston Hotel.  Yes that's the one you passed on your way to the top.

Las Vegas Realtor ® Image Valley Of Fire

Valley of fire

The Valley of Fire derives its name from red sandstone formations, created from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs, 150 million years ago. Complex uplifting and faulting of the region, followed by extensive erosion, have created the present landscape. Other important rock formations include limestones, shales, and conglomerates. Prehistoric users of the Valley of Fire included the Basket Maker people and later the Anasazi Pueblo farmers from the nearby fertile Moapa Valley. The span of approximate occupation has been dated from 300 B.C. to 1150 A.D. Their visits probably involved hunting, food gathering, and religious ceremonies, although scarcity of water would have limited the length of their stay. Fine examples of rock art left by these ancient peoples can be found at several sites within the park.

Las Vegas Realtor ® Image Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of the first national parks in the United States.  The canyon, created by the Colorado River cutting a channellover millions of years, is about 277 miles long, ranges in width from 0.25 to 18 miles and attains a depth of more than a mile.  The details of the canyon's formation are still highly controversial. Geologists continue to debate ideas about the formation of Grand Canyon.

There are many ways to view the canyon.  However, many prefer to fly to the canyon and it's visitor center.  Some stay over night, but those craving true adventure travel to the canyon by helicopter.  There are many to choose from so check what they have to offer and compare.  Helicopters are the only flights allowed below the canyon rim and offer a truly spectacular experience.

Silver State

Another major industry in Nevada is mining.  Although Nevada is nicknamed "Silver State", it is true that silver mining is pale in comparison to that of gold.  "Nevada is one of the Earth's premier gold producing regions, accounting for approximately 64 percent of the U.S. and nine percent of the world total" (production), according to the U.S. Geological Survey website.

Nevada is the third-largest producer of gold in the entire world. It produced 7.73 million ounces in 2002, and only Australia, 9 million ounces and South Africa, 12.7 million ounces produced more. Nevada produced five percent less gold than it did in 2001, but remained the number one gold producing state of the country.
